When it comes to the festive season, I do love the treat of eating out. When I was invited to try the Maze Grill by Gordon Ramsay with Buy a Gift I jumped at the opportunity. I went on their Grill Tasting for two experience which costs £100 (see the menu below) and was in my opinion worth every penny of that. As I knew the restaurant was going to be a treat I took my parents as a surprise for their wedding anniversary (my mum went on the festive set menu whilst myself and my dad did the tasting menu offered from Buy a Gift).

As you enter the Fulham restaurant, there is a long bar where you can see the chefs preparing food and also the fridge filled with steaks. The welcome was so warm and helpful as the Operational Manager Luigi helped with our luggage and showed us several seating options. As I knew I was going to be taking lots of photos I chose us a side table. As we browsed the menu, we were given our glass of bubbles included in the gift voucher to sip. We were all super hungry so decided to also add on a dish from the snack section of the menu; popcorn cauliflower. Luigi was kind enough to also bring us his recommendation from the snack section which was the smashed avocado with sweet potato chips. Both these snacks were so yummy and flavourful. Our waitress Antonia explained to us that the snack and starter sections of the menu have an Asian influence so have a spicy kick to them which is something I enjoy.

For the starters,

The main was what I was most excited for; the chateaubriand sharing steak. The restaurant specialises in its meat with so many steaks on the menu, that I had incredibly high hopes for this dish. Spoiler: it didn’t disappoint. We opted for the steak to be cooked medium and chose béarnaise and peppercorn sauce from the list of various sauce options. When it came to the sides we had a tough choice picking so went for three of them! Hand cut chips are a steak essential, mac and cheese, and creamed spinach.
When the steak arrived it came on a large wooden board and was already pre-sliced. The slicing made the sharing so much easier and prevented us messing up the lovely piece of meat. I would have to say the steak for me was more on the rare side than medium but at the time I realised this was probably for the best as the meat literally melted in the mouth. It was deliciously salted and so juicy – I haven’t fully recovered from how good it was. In terms of the sides, on the steak board there was also the nice touch of some mini grilled tomatoes. The hand cut chips were unusual in the sense they were essentially roast potatoes. For reference they were delicious and I ate SO many of them, just an unusual twist on a classic chip you get with a steak. The mac and cheese was also slightly unusual and I loved it, it wasn’t super tangy cheese which I personally would find a bit strange with a steak. The mac and cheese was instead super creamy and therefore was so good paired with the super meaty steak. Finally, the creamed spinach, like the mac and cheese was super creamy and a great pair.

Last but not least it is time for dessert. I must say at this point we all felt SO full, for every course we ate every single mouthful as the food is too good to waste. For dessert we went for three of them to get to try as many dishes as possible (two come with the voucher). We had the Eton Mess, the Chocolate Brownie, and the Sticky Toffee Pudding. I have to admit there was only one of these desserts which I was incredibly impressed with; the Eton Mess. The Brownie and the Sticky Toffee were also lovely and a great sweet treat after all the savoury delights. The Eton Mess really did stand out though, it was special and unusual with pink peppercorn spice hits and also the presentation was by far the best of the three desserts. When we spoke to Luigi he told us how the Eton Mess is always very popular and they haven’t ever removed it from the menu since opening day as it is so good. As a bonus surprise the restaurant prepared an extra dessert for my parents to commemorate their anniversary which was the apricot upside-down cake. It came on another wooden board with ‘happy anniversary’ piped in chocolate, a really lovely touch and shows how this would be an amazing experience for a celebration.

All in all, I highly recommend the Maze Grill Buy a Gift experience. For £100 for the voucher you feel like you are truly getting more than your money’s worth and a high-end meal experience. It would be an amazing gift for someone particularly if you haven’t done your Christmas shopping, yet I would consider this voucher.
